Losing My R.E.M.

Few days ago, I came across the news that R.E.M. had disbanded. Immediately, I am a bit shock and lost ... in my heart. R.E.M. is one of my favorite music artiste/band. Again, I couldn'e hear anymore fantastic music from one of my admire musicians.

I listened to R.E.M. when I was still schooling, yeah, well I can't remember I first heard it from radio 98.7 FM, weekly MTV dosage or been intro by my friend - Weiqin. But I remember Weiqin and I enjoy listening to Michael Stipe and R.E.M. . Both of us would be at Weiqin's house living room and he will blast the hifi's speaker in front of us.... hee ... . it's a fun and enjoying moment for us. In fact, I still get a kick whenever I listen to R.E.M. I like Michael Stipe's vocal and dancing style. Yeah!!! His dance is absolutely unique and you could tell he is really enjoying himself! Oh yes, I enjoy Michael Stipe's concert performance. He really hook you into his music. It's enchanting.

After so many years, the tracks Losing My Religion, Shining Happy People, Everybody Hurts, Drive and Man On The Moon still give me a great feeling! Losing My Religion's opening is always so addictive and attracting. Shining Happy People is a wonderful uplifting song with an unique 'sudden change' midway through their music. Everybody Hurts and Drive made me kinda 'blue' and 'silence in my world'.

Upon hearing R.E.M.'s songs, they often bring back memories during my school time. It is also during those time, I get expose and enjoy Nirvana, Cranberries, Boys II Men, U2, Metallica, Guns n' Roses .... etc.... the artistes list and songs goes on!!! Woww! Love those music!! I feel kinda fortunate to enjoy those music, yeah, so many wonderful music.

Again, how come my favorite artiste keep disappearing from our world? I feel so kinda 'wasted' that these great musicians still have so much more to offer and sending great moments to us... yet we may or never heard from them again.

Goodbye Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse, the great Jazz-Soul-R&B artiste had gone. Kinda sad that another very talented, or should I say another exceptionally talented artiste had left us so early. Although people come and people go, but I duno why so many artiste that I like or applause had gone so ... . sudden to me or to so many.

Artiste that left early Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, Teresa Teng, Huang Jia Jun(Beyond), Michael Hutchence, Kurt Cobain, Leslie Cheung, Anita Mui, Roman Tam, Michael Jackson ... and now Amy Winehouse. Some gone by illness, some gone by mishap, some gone by ... .

Well, in fact I just realise Amy had written so many of her tracks. How ignorance of me. Now I feel more for her songs, in fact, loving her songs so much more now. I duno is it because she had gone too soon or I admire her as a song writter and singer or she writes those songs on her Back To Black album on her true accounts or feeling for her lyrics' content or she sing so uniquely appealing style or feel some connection with her coz.. well, I heard during interviews, she may talk to you, but at times she just remain silent.. Well, that sound familiar to me, bcoz sometimes I talk and sometimes I just remain silent.

They are people who complain they dun have enough. How much is enough? 1 million? 5 million? or 10 million? What is happiness? Money? Or state of mind? Yeah.. . well, I thought we need both. Maybe I should say it's a balance of both. Maybe sometimes, life's simple pleasure is a pure joy afterall.

Treasure what you have ...

I Don't Have A Life

One week ago, 3 of us are relaxing while there are no patrons. 2 of us are local and the Supervisor is a foreigner from Eastern Europe. My other male colleague trying to start a conversation, hence, he ask our Supervisor," So, how's life?"

She reply, "Don't ask me how's life. I have no life. My life is shit."

She's starting to get a bit work up. And continue, " I don't have family, no friends, no saving. And I am single. Everyday, I come to work and go home, come to work and go home. No friends no money."

At this point, I could see she's trying hard to fight back her tears. Both of us got a shock from her reaction. We could only apologise, with guilt.

And she said,"I suppose to have a marriage a month ago. But now, it's gone."

"So don't ask me 'How's life?'. I don't have a life."

Sore Eye Fellow

Recently, over a meal.. . one of my colleagues pointed out to colleagues AA and looking at me and say:"Oh,Christopher havn't taken any MC for this year yet, yeah?"

AA half joking and with said sacrastically:" He work so hard and wana get promoted!!"

I wonder is AA so sore-eyed that I havn't taken any MC? What is wrong with me being mentally and physically fit for the time being that I dun see the need to take a real or fake MC yet? If you are really unfit to work, then stay at home and rest - I didn't and won't stop you. If you are really so fed up with the company, then go ahead and find another one - I didn't and won't stop you. So why are you so unhappy that I didn't take any MC yet?

Promotion.. . most of the people would want a promotion. Dun you? I wan it - so that I could have more $$$. Dun you wan more $$$?? You may not want $$$ for more job resposibilities but I want.

That is not the first time I have heard from AA. Previoulsy, AA also appeared unhappy that I had volunteer to work for more $$$.

Natural Drug

Since young, I had discovered that I like to run. I supposed it is during my NS days, that I had fully realised it. I just love to run, run and run.

I like to run leisurely. I like to think of things during run. Somehow, it made me relax at times. Its fun and its gets a high feeling. Yeah, a runner's high.

Almost everytime after a run, I have a feel-good feeling. I can't explain it. Only in the later stage, I know the feeling might be caused from the endorphins. Yeah, I like that feel :) . I suppose this is one natural drug that one could experience and enjoy legally :)

Fashion Ambush

Today I have watched the last episode of Fashion Ambush. Surprisingly, this programme have made me glued and chase over it. The programme is about the hosts looking out for people who dress stylishly on the street. It will also cover the shop that these people wear. Hmmm.. . the most interesting part is Trey, the host-stylist, will give tips on-the-spot on how to further enhance the look, explaining why does it looks good and other ways to use the accessories.

Fashion Ambush is really interesting and informative! haa.. . hope it will be back to ambush the streets again!!! :)

Wonder Could I Zzzzzz After A Cup of Coffee ...

After my evening jog, I had Fried Rice and Otar as side dish .. . hmmm .. . quite nice .. hee .. . Oh yeah, I had a cup of coffee to go along as well (as I had a crave for hot coffee or ice cold chrysanthemum while I was jogging away) .. . hee .. .

Wonder could I Zzzzzzzz after my black coffee later .. . hee .. . :p

My Life in France

Just read My Life in France - Julia Child. It's a delicious book :)

I had already miss out the film Julie & Julia. Now, after reading this book, it makes me wana catch that film even more!! haa .. .

I suppose the film will show lots of yummy-licking food and the fun of cooking involed :)

Sometimes I do wonder .. . how many marvellous food recipes had been lost in this world after so many decades .. . :(

Well, hope I could place my hand on some of Julia Chilld's cookbook ... . someday ... . & cook it effortlessly with joy .. . :)

Chasing Leslie Cheung ...

1st of April is April Fool's Day.

That was what I had always remember for that day... but, since 1 April 2003, it was no longer just an April Fool's Day, it is also the death annivesary day of Leslie Cheung that I remember of.

Of course, on that day, I will also recall his tune of 追, Chase. A silky song with the beautiful piano opening. I didn't know much of his songs, but, this is one song that I have always love ... from him. It is one of the most beautiful song. The song is so touching ... ..

Wonderful Air

Had been watching Gems of Life (Zhu Guan Bao Qi) recently... it's a great drama... the story, actors, humor and the luxurious blah blah... haa.. and yeah, the show is also promoting diamond, the bling bling, yeah, it kinda reflect one's life and the wealthy lifestyle in the show .. Another great impact of the show is, nevertheless, the song in the midst of the drama. They had pull it off again ... :)

Initially when I heard the song, it sound rather familiar, but I just can't piece the song tittle or singer together. It is only upon hearing it several times afterward... it begin to drawn on me that ... haaa.... it is the piece that I like but didn't really listen to... coz the version that I have sound rather sad and heavy... :p .

The piece that is play on the Gems of Life is Bach - Air on The G String. The version on the drama had been given a lighter twist to it. The 1st version is the angelic voice that "oooOO" the piece so pure and innocently. The 2nd version is another soft rendition on it - guitar strumming. Both have a similiarity feel to the classical Bach's orchestral version - sadness. Both piece also seems to have alot to tell, lots of emotion entrapped inside. One or both seems to gone through many ups and downs in a/few relationships alone/together. It's kinda bittersweet with lots of happy moments before ... and I hope thereafter as well :)

Look at the way he play. Woww. The world seems to twirl in slow motion.. . He play it so ... relaxing. He seems to be into the piece... into the "Air world" ... not bother by what surrounding him. He seems to play the music in a slow motion but the music flow seamlessly and wonderfully. :) . A beautiful and amazing guitar version.

Btw, do that guy look familiar to you? Someone comments that he look like Bill Gates :) .. hee ...

Oh yeah, if you know the version of the "Anglic Voice", please let me know :) . I have been searching in vain for it.

Cringing Papa and Senseless Mama

While on my way to the mrt station... I saw a lady with a child passing by.. as the lady was walking down the stairs, she called out loudly to a man (apparently her husband) with another child," Papa, why are you still here?" .. Gooosh, that man was her husband, yet she was calling him "Papa" !!??

I had heard husband and wife calling each other "Papa-Mama" many times. And everytime, it never fail to cringe me. And most of the time, they like to call out the cringing-name LOUDLY. Do they really think it is sweet and romantic to call each other as "Papa-Mama"? Frankly, I find it rather utterly disgusting and nonsensical. Do they know the meaning of "Papa" and "Mama"? The word "Papa" means that person is your father - YOU are his child.

How do one could actually find it romantic to call your spouse as "Father"? It is completely senseless.

Sometimes, I could also heard couple calling each other as "Dar Dar". I suppose it is a short abbreviation from "Darling". Well, if one wana call her loved ones as "Darling", then just say it! Please say ,"Darling", the exact word and dun spoil the word as "Dar Dar". It is neither cute nor endearing at all.

There are many sweet names in the air, awaiting one to grasp with both hands... and blow sweet-whispers to your loved ones.

If one duno, then that's certainly unromantic.

Sometimes, I had also overheard the mother calling out her little daughter's name loudly as "Mei Mei"!!! Ohhhh!! "Mei Mei" in Mandarin means younger sister. Why do a mother call her daughter ... as younger sister? Irrational. Again, there are many sweet little names for ones' beloved little daughter.

There are many beautiful names up there, yeah, for one to romance with your beloved ones. If one really duno, then, please.. just call your spouse or daugther.. their actual name.

Recently a relative of mine had a mishap.. and die in an unfortunate incident. He is only around 31yrs, yeah, although we are not very close.. but we used to play together when we very, very young. He and I are small frame.. skinny little boys :p ... well.. fast forward to today, he's gone :(

In a blink, yeah, he's gone.

His mum is totally lost. When I bidding goodbye to her (at the wake), she look at me.. saying 'you had grown up' .. I could tell from her eye that.. she is also implying ' Wei Hwa is about the same age as you, about yr height... he should be standing here... if only...'

The other day... I am walking past a flat near my house.... hmmm.... I hear a familiar piano tune.. i pause.. stop and stand there. The melody is really catchy and absorbing. It is light, fast, fairytale-like and... the pianist seem to play it seamlessly. I wonder is anyone playing it 'live' now or is it from a CD? The music coming above, seems to be the same block of flat which I heard a young girl playing beautiful music when i am practising my staircse climbing 1 year ago. I wonder could it be the same girl or juz a CD playing? Btw the piece that I heard was K. 311-Alla turca Allegretto - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Anyway, I juz stood rooted ... coz the music is too beautiful :)

I used to think... how I wish my neighbour is a piano or volin lover. From time to time, playing beautiful pieces ... hee.. but hopefully not playing .. sad and solemn pieces .. too often ... :p ... ironically, sad music is beautiful at times, as they could made u sit still.. unattached from the world.. and sink you into a desserted garden .. letting you absorb and touching your heart :p
